Southern Colonies Summary. The American Colonies are generally divided into three regions โ€” the New England, Middle, and Southern. The Southern Colonies, in geographic order, from North to South, were: The warm climate and fertile land of the Southern Colonies were conducive to the growth of prosperous cash crops like tobacco, rice, and indigo.
